This is one of the most-read posts I have ever written, so I have kept it simple and brought it up to date. If you have designed a page in Elementor and the theme's header and footer are squashing your layout, here is how to hide or disable the header and footer in Elementor. It still works in 2026, on both the free and Pro versions.
The one-step fix: Elementor Canvas
You do not need a plugin or custom code for this. Elementor ships a page template called Canvas that renders your content full width with no theme header and no theme footer. Switching to it is the whole solution.
- Edit the page or post you want to hide the header and footer on.
- In the editor sidebar, find the Template dropdown under Page Attributes (or Post Attributes).
- Select Elementor Canvas, then update the page.
That is it. The theme's default header and footer are removed automatically and the page you designed in Elementor shows in full, edge to edge.
Canvas vs Full Width
The Template dropdown usually offers three options, and the difference trips people up. The default template keeps your theme's header and footer. Elementor Full Width removes the container width limit but keeps the header and footer. Elementor Canvas is the one that strips both away and gives you a blank slate. If you still see a header after switching, check you picked Canvas and not Full Width. Some themes add their own extra templates to that dropdown too.
Still the right call in 2026
Elementor has changed a lot since I first published this, but Canvas has not moved. It is still the cleanest way to build a full-screen landing page, a coming-soon page, or a custom checkout inside a WordPress site without fighting the theme. If your whole site needs custom headers and footers rather than none, that is a job for Elementor Theme Builder instead, but for a single page that needs to stand alone, Canvas is still the answer.
One note if you add custom PHP alongside this: keep it in the Code Snippets plugin rather than your theme's functions.php, so a theme update never wipes it.
